Thirsty Souls

John 4:14, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Greetings everyone! I pray this finds you waking to positive thoughts and that it continues all through the day! Have you ever awakened in the morning with dry mouth? Like, you are dry to the core, and wonder if you breathed all night with your mouth wide open? We all know that this means you were overly tired, possibly dehydrated and just didn’t notice that you needed to drink more water and not sweetened sodas or teas! Many times, as believers and unbelievers we are found to be thirsty, yet it isn’t in the physical but the spiritual. The story of “the woman at the well”, is a prime example of how someone can be thirsty, yet not realize they thirst for the presence of God in their lives and not the hydration of water! All of us, at some point during our lives, feel a void, an emptiness, that is hard to explain. But, this can be explained as God reaching out, just asking you to drink of His grace and mercy. He wants you to know that becoming a believer turns your life around, fills you with the “Living Water” that only comes from giving Him your heart, soul and mind. Jesus told the woman at the well, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” It’s actually talking of how each of us are weary, empty, and finding that what the world offers isn’t enough. As your life becomes a fountain of eternal life, you are filled with the Holy Spirit. When God breaks our reliance on worldly things, we will have the need to return to Him or for a new believer, just openly receive the grace He is offering. As we stop seeking temporary satisfactions and sinful escapes, we will find eternal truths, promises, and a thirst that only searches for God. Once we trust in what God can do with us, through us and for us, those feelings of emptiness will begin to fade until they are no longer there! Our thirst will be for the knowledge of all that is Christ, and the longing will be for our heavenly home!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank you for giving us the opportunity to find the living water, to accept the grace and mercy you offer. Thank you, Lord, for your Son’s sacrifice that we might have that thirst no more for the wrong things, but for only you and your promises. Help us, Lord, to continue showing others how their thirst too can be quenched by asking for forgiveness and letting you come into their hearts. Amen.
