Inside the Music
I Corinthians 14:15, “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
Hello everyone! Let’s look for positivity today no matter the situation! Before we even get started, let’s pause and thank God for allowing another day to our journey! Today we want to talk on music or rather what is really inside music. Yeah, you are wondering how there is an inside to music! Well, simply, music was first born after someone found sounds of objects that were gentle on the ears, pleasant to harmony just like birds chirping! I am sure people knew their voices made sounds and then hitting on something added a beat so their thoughts became “what if” and they made objects that accentuated their voices! When God’s people used music, their voices were praising their creator, recognizing His power, worshipping Him. Even in quiet time, soothing music was used to calm nerves, anxiety, depression and pain. We all know that when music is added, the world around us finds new meaning! They used poems and scripture as songs to sing unto God, letting Him know they believed His words, teachings, laws. Today, it is the same; people use their deep inner feelings to form songs and write melodies that flow easily with each note! The lyrics, the themes and the emotional tones imprint on our mind and in our memories. Most scholars and ministers will tell you to weigh the song and its words to see if it will align with biblical teaching, and spiritual truths. This is how you see the inside of music; by hearing the words of what a person was trying to say within the song. There will also be critics who aren’t really hearing the message but are criticizing the fact that it uses secular, pop, rock, hip-hop music to deliver a message to groups who need Jesus. If we use the music to reach every genre, with worship words and scriptures that align to a clear path to God; are we not doing what God called us to do? If we use the inside of music to reach the inside hearts of the loss we have may have to go beyond the conservative biblical perspectives. We as believers should not evaluate a genre of music that isn’t “old school” and say it isn’t worship because we were not with David when he praised God loudly in the temple! We do not know if he used only slow, rhythmic, songs, because if it was loud like the music that tore down the walls of Jericho, his praise was magnificent! When we get to heaven, I don’t believe that our music then will be quiet and somber, but loud and joyous and praise worthy! So, today, make sure the words of your worship align with God, whether it is loud, hip-hop, pop, praise songs; hear the words and then decide if it invites you to worship God wherever you are!

Prayer:
Dear Lord, we come now thanking you for the songs you placed in the mouths of birds, and the knowledge you gave to a human to create instruments that would aid in the melody making. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of musical sounds that can fill us with love, peace and joy. Thank you, Lord, for those who have the gift to take your scripture and place them in songs that will heal our hearts, lead us to you, help us to share with others and that will put us in a worship mood to praise you. Amen.
